Office moves may seem intimidating, but they don’t have to be. By working with a trusted corporate moving company and planning well in advance, you can avoid much of the stress and ensure a seamless and successful move. Read on to learn more about how to have a successful move:
Pre-Move Meeting and Cost Projection
The commercial moving process begins with a meeting between a client and the moving company. It is here that the client can get a sense of the movers’ professionalism and trustworthiness, and the movers can learn about the specifications of the move and the client’s expectations. The movers will also calculate a rough cost estimate for the job during or shortly after the preliminary meeting.
Moving Schedules and Client Orientation Meeting
After the preliminary meetings, the moving company and client will work to create their own move schedules. The movers’ schedule will let the client know the days on which they will perform the move and other services. The client will then use this information to create a schedule for packing, coordinating with vendors and contractors, and obtaining permits and new equipment. The client also needs to have a staff orientation meeting before the move occurs.
Marking and Tagging
As items are packed, the client and movers will discuss and agree upon on a system for marking various items for the move. Perhaps the easiest marking and tagging system to work with is one based on color coding. The movers and staff need only look at the color or mark on an item to know exactly where it should be placed at the new location.

On October 30th, 2012, U.M.C. Moving Company was the only Commercial Mover in New York City whose dispatch department was open. It wasn’t until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday that the first of several emergency phone calls were made to U.M.C. by clients who were in Lower Manhattan and parts of Westchester requiring Moving and Storage services for Wednesday, October 31st, 2012.
The NYC Subway System was flooded and U.M.C. dispatchers immediately coordinated U.M.C. crews to meet at the U.M.C. offices in Brooklyn before being dispatched. That day, U.M.C. successfully sent 6 Vans and 36 Men to various client locations to begin several relocations – many without elevator service or lighting. Technology and files had to be carried down as many as 34 floors before being loaded.
This scenario was repeated daily for 3 weeks. In addition to emergency movers, U.M.C. Moving was entrusted with storing 24 truckloads of storage for 2 separate clients pending Insurance Claim Settlements.
Of all U.M.C. clients, only one, GFI Inc. had a Disaster Recovery Site in Iselin, New Jersey with enough redundancy to have all GFI Staff report to work on Wednesday after Hurricane Sandy. The balance of clients such as Citibank, BGC and J.P. Morgan Chase were able to relocate Lower Manhattan personnel to Midtown locations.
U.M.C. Moving never lost power or internet service. U.M.C. Moving was not impacted by flooding as other movers were who maintain warehouses on the East River and in flood zones on Long Island.
Six weeks after Hurricane Sandy, clients are now planning their return to Lower Manhattan and U.M.C. Moving will play a vital role in this recovery.

When your small business starts to grow, your office space might not be adequate enough to accommodate the rapidly-growing company. Relocating the office can give you the extra space you need without interrupting your work flow. Use these tips to successfully move your small business into a better environment:
Find the Perfect Space
Before you hire the commercial movers, spend some time finding commercial real estate in which your company can thrive. Decide whether you want to rent or buy property, and work with a realtor to find something that works for you. You should find a space that is large enough to adapt to even more growth in the future.
Work with Commercial Movers
Trying to handle a corporate move without the help of a corporate moving company is too much for any small business. Once you know where you are planning to move, rely on commercial movers to get you there. Do some research to find a company that will give you the level of service that you need to transition without disrupting your productivity. This allows you to get settled into the space you need while maintaining your impressive work ethic.
Keep Your Customers Informed
When you finally relocate, it is important to keep your customers informed about your new location. Make an effort to really spread the word about the move and when it will take place. After you are settled into the new location, throw some kind of event that invites your clients to come out and see your new place.
